TRAINEE TEACHER OF SPORT
Full-time, term-time only
Hours: 8.50am to 4.15pm, Monday to Friday
Salary: Between £19,882 per annum and £22,525 per annum depending on the balance between teaching and learning support work
Would you like to train as a teacher in sixth form education, whilst being paid to do so? Reigate College offers the opportunity to gain your PGCE alongside paid employment as a trainee teacher. The College has substantial and successful experience of training teachers for the past 15 years.
The College is seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic, and motivated graduate to join the Sport Department and train to become a teacher. The successful applicant will be given a fixed-term contract over the 22-month training period and will divide their time between teaching and learning support duties.
The College has a well-developed mentoring system and comprehensive professional development opportunities, through which trainees will be fully supported towards a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education. You will work at the College during the day and complete the lectures and seminars for the qualification on Tuesday nights from 5.30pm until 8.30pm each week. These sessions are held on the College campus.
As a trainee, your typical week will comprise of teaching, usually between 2 and 17 periods per week (21 is for a full-time teacher), in addition to planning, preparation and marking time. The remainder of your time will be spent as a Learning Facilitator (Teaching Assistant) either supporting in class or working with individual students.
In addition to the PGCE sessions, you will be expected to attend various evening events throughout the year including Open Evenings and Student Review Meetings.
The post is a fixed-term, full-time appointment and is effective from 1 September 2025 to 2 July 2027. It is important to note that the College is unable to guarantee you any employment once your training is complete.
