Hours and shifts • From 30th December – 30th March - Shifts will run from 22.00 to 08.00 each night, 7 days per week. These shifts will be worked between the Overnight Project Staff on a rota system, but will also include some initial daytime training. • 31st March – 4th April 10 hours per week (daytime hours) Maidstone Churches Winter Shelter is a coalition of churches and volunteers from across the Maidstone community, working alongside local agencies to offer afternoon and evening hospitality and overnight shelter to homeless people in the coldest months. Further aims of the project are: • To provide hot meals, a warm environment and support for homeless people plus those in temporary accommodation and others who are genuinely in need of meals and support, in order to try and minimise future homeless cases. • to support homeless people to find long-term accommodation, resisting dependency on the shelter, and to co-ordinate support for them. This means working alongside homeless people as equals. These posts are a great opportunity to work right at the heart of this inspirational project. Working alongside our Project Manager & Assistant Project Manager, we depend on the Overnight Project Workers to deliver the project throughout the night on a day-to-day basis. Throughout the project you will be responsible for: Advancing and achieving the shelter’s aims; Co-working flexibly and supportively with the Project team to ensure staff presence every evening/night while the shelter is open; Co-working with volunteer teams to set up and clear up shelter venues, and working with our guests to provide appropriate support. To succeed, you will have the ability to work independently, with initiative to make responsible and well-judged decisions. You will be an effective, flexible and supportive team member who is honest, non-judgmental and sensitive to the views and needs of others. A basic understanding of the background and circumstances of homeless and vulnerable people and a knowledge of the services available to homeless people would be advantageous.
