POSITION SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant works with the Physician and other members of the primary or specialty care team by performing a variety of clinical and administrative patient-related duties. The Medical Assistant also works to fulfill a variety of patient needs and ensures smooth patient flow within the department.
Essential Functions
1. Greets patients on the phone and in person
2. Places patients in the exam rooms
3. Takes vital signs and performs ancillary tests appropriate to skill level
4. Assists and sets up for providers during examination, treatment, and procedures
5. Keeps accurate patient files
6. Applies dressing, bandages, and splints as ordered by provider
7. Ensures rooms are stocked with necessary supplies
8. Maintains a sanitized and safe working environment
9. Maintains HIPAA compliance
10. Coordinates services between multiple practices demonstrable by excellent communication skills
11. Performs other medical assistant duties as necessary
Requirements
Required:
1. 1+ years medical assistant experience
2. High School Diploma or equivalent
3. Current American Heart Association CPR Certification
4. Certification from an approved medical assistant program or equivalent combination of training
5. Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision
6. Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies
7. Ability to adapt to advancement and changing technology
8. Attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness
9. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all levels of staff
10. Basic typing skills to input various data into Information systems
11. Experience in an outpatient practice
12. Able to coordinate patient services, assist patients with office, medications and procedure authorizations and explain process to patients
13. Ability to use EMR and perform chart abstraction into EMR
14. Strong computer skills and use of Microsoft Office
15. Ability to prioritize work efficiently
16. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and writing skills
17. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
18. Ability to multi-task and be flexible in changing work assignments at short notice, including increasing work hours as needed to cover the practice needs
19. Ability to work in a fast-paced setting
20. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
