Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You’ll be working in a part of Telent that is dedicated to maintaining the UK-wide rail network. Our customers include Transport for London, Network Rail, and various Train Operating Companies.
Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the Systems Engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrade works mainly across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM, etc. infrastructure. Acting as the systems engineer for customer projects, you will undertake all technical aspects, including survey, design, and technical aspects of SISS within a Rail environment.
Typical Deliverables
* Strong experience in system design, survey, and technical engineering within SISS.
* Potentially lead in creating new product or service ideas and drawing up plans for new designs.
* Manage ideas from initial design to production or installation.
* Develop detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
* Use mathematical and scientific skills to create real-world solutions.
* Select appropriate materials for new products or constructions.
* Calculate accurate cost analysis forecasts for projects.
* Complete technical and regulatory documentation.
* Ensure quality control tests on new products/systems and oversee their construction, development, and deployment.
Responsibilities
* Maintain in-depth knowledge of your professional engineering discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
* Arrange testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
* Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
* Develop and maintain personal engineering skills.
* Solve complex problems with innovative perspectives.
* Work independently with minimal guidance.
* Lead projects or project phases within broader projects, with accountability for ongoing activities or objectives.
* Mentor colleagues with less experience.
* Comply with all QEHS requirements related to the role.
Skill Requirements
* Previous technical experience in SISS, Engineering, Design, and Survey skills.
* Hold relevant licenses/certifications for the discipline.
* Proficient with MS Office, Word, Excel, etc.
* Knowledge of quality standards, processes, and regulatory requirements.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Proficient in AutoCAD/MicroStation and other CAD software.
* Ability to collaborate effectively.
* Customer-focused, capable of engaging with stakeholders.
* Passionate about problem-solving and providing workable solutions.
* Strong analytical and reasoning skills with the ability to visualize processes and outcomes.
