Communications Manager 35 hours per week – (Mon-Friday) Permanent -Salary grade 6A - £38,724

The Role
The Communications Manager is responsible for contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies to shape internal and external communications with the College’s key audiences. This includes our 16,000 Fellows and Members in the UK and internationally, as well as prospective Members and those interested in postgraduate education, training and assessment. The postholder will enhance and grow the College’s reputation and reach in Scotland, the UK and internationally.
The role involves the delivery of both proactive and reactive corporate communications and campaign activity across a range of channels (including email, social media, bulletins, publications including our biannual College Voice magazine, and the website) to meet target audiences and influencers. The postholder will be in regular contact with the President, office bearers and other senior clinicians, and staff working across the College (including in Membership and Engagement, Education and Assessment teams) to ensure consistency of messaging, accurate reporting of activity, and updates.
The postholder will be a member of the Directorate leadership team. They will work with colleagues, including the Senior Marketing Manager and the Public Affairs and PR Manager, to manage delivery of a strategy for the College’s communications channels, ensuring a consistent tone of voice and alignment with industry best practice.
Working with the Communications Officer, they will also contribute to the planning and delivery of an internal communications strategy, based on our College strategic objectives (as set out in Strategy 2025–2028). This work will contribute to our positive organisational culture.
About You
The postholder will require the following.
* Training in communications, journalism, or a related subject.
* A minimum of three years of professional experience in a communications role.
* Excellent communication and editorial skills, with outstanding proofreading ability, attention to detail and writing skills.
* A strong track record of developing and delivering effective email campaigns.
* A proven track record as a highly effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with negotiating, persuasion and influencing skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Excellent knowledge of using social media channels to connect with audiences.
* Demonstrable knowledge of internal communications and engagement.
* Confident planning and project management skills; able to prioritise and manage multiple projects ensuring deadlines are met.
* Knowledge and experience of working in a membership, academic or healthcare environment would be an advantage.
* Highly competent in use of Microsoft Office suite. Knowledge and experience with DotDigital for email campaigns would be an advantage.
