Mechanical Supervisor
Contract role
Duration – 12 months +
40 hours per week
Location – Macclesfield, Cheshire (5 days per week)
Rate - £35Ltd per hour (Possible flexibility) - Subject to an IR35 Assessment confirming outside status

Our client is an Engineering Consultancy/Construction contractor specializing in consultancy, design, construction, commissioning, and validation.
This is a site-based role reporting to a Site Operations Manager. Your primary roles and responsibilities are set out below:
Responsibilities
Although responsibility lies with the Site Manager, you will have shared responsibility for site activities as prescribed. These can be split into specific areas which are described in more detail below:
1. Safety, Health and the Environment
2. Quality
3. Procurement and Resources
4. Programming and Planning
As part of the ‘front line’ point of contact with the client, you will need to be customer-focused, non-confrontational, and establish good working relationships. Based on site, you may also have to take part in site meetings and provide constructive input to the meetings, liaising and coordinating with all other contractors and site-based project teams. Although your role described here is based on supporting the Site Manager, depending on the size, nature, and complexity of the project, you may also be required to ‘site manage’ certain projects independently.
Safety, Health and the Environment
You will have a working knowledge of current legislation, requirements, and best practices and will assist the site manager in monitoring and improving Health and Safety at the site level. Your shared responsibilities will include:
1. Utilising the company's Safety Management System in full.
2. All work to be carried out with close reference to the Construction Phase Health & Safety Plan.
3. Ensuring that method statements & risk assessments are produced, reviewed & submitted for all installations.
4. Achieving Zero Lost Time Accidents on site.
5. Preparing/reviewing COSHH assessments.
6. Carrying out regular toolbox talks and site safety audits.
7. Liaising with the company safety advisor.
8. Supplying and monitoring appropriate PPE.
The company often fulfills the role of Principal Contractor, and therefore you will provide support to the Site Manager in sharing the responsibility for Health and Safety on site.
Duties
In conjunction with the Site Manager, you will monitor quality and the standards of work on site and will assist in the following tasks:
1. Liaison with all disciplines to ensure works are accurately coordinated.
2. Inspection of final installation, completion of snag lists and monitoring of completion of snags.
3. Correctly interpreting drawings and documents for installation.
4. Thorough communication with tradesmen of the working practices required.
5. Inspection of onsite installations.
6. Setting, maintaining, and agreeing standards of workmanship.
7. Understanding the company's Quality System, implementing and promoting.
8. Verifying, maintaining, and reviewing inspection records.
9. Achieving Zero Formal Customer Complaints.
10. Assessing buildability of the installation and providing proactive solutions where required.
11. Maintaining a site diary.
12. Induction and approval of tradesmen (including sub-contractors).
Procurement and Resources
Procurement of major plant and subcontract packages will be the responsibility of the Project Manager; however, you will be required to carry out the following:
1. Assisting in organizing working arrangements with subcontractors.
2. Organising, in conjunction with the Site Manager, equipment, plant hire, and materials.
3. Supervision of site labour.
4. Assisting in the organisation of sub-contractors on site to meet project time scales.
5. Organisation, receipt, inspection, storage, and control of incoming goods and materials.
Programming / Planning
The preparation of the construction programme will usually be the responsibility of the Project Manager or Project Planner; however, you will be expected to assist when required with the following tasks:
1. Liaising with the company Site Manager regularly to discuss planning and progress.
2. Liaising with relevant members of the team to discuss and agree programme requirements.
3. Ensuring the project is completed to the agreed timescales.
4. Providing feedback to enable progress reports to be compiled.
5. Assisting in undertaking weekly site reports.
6. Monitoring labour levels on site.
7. Attending & inputting into PDR Meetings.
8. Attending daily briefs with contractors.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
1. Trained to a minimum standard of IOSH Managing Safely or SSSTS.
2. Suitable NVQ’s/City Guild tradesperson qualification.
3. Experienced in supervision of turnkey projects within your expertise, including construction, HVAC, mechanical, and electrical works.
4. Experienced in the pharmaceutical and healthcare markets, particularly in the construction of laboratories and cleanrooms.
5. Working knowledge of company safety and quality procedures.
6. Working knowledge of the CDM regulations and able to provide good organisational support to the Site Manager where we are fulfilling the role of principal contractor.
7. Minimum 5 years experience in the industry.
