Advanced Practitioner Physiotherapist - Stroke/Neurology
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an advanced practitioner physiotherapist to join Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust to take lead in the clinical delivery and leadership of the Stroke and Neurology physiotherapy services delivered across acute and community settings.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate significant post graduate clinical knowledge of this specialist field, including having worked at band 6 level within the NHS. You must also be able to demonstrate flexibility, good time management skills, organisational skills and evidence of self-motivation.
As a key member of the multi-disciplinary team you will work closely with the medical staff and other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to the management of patients. You would be expected to carry a caseload on the inpatient stroke ward, with extended clinical leadership and management across acute and community services.
A significant component of the post will involve operational support and staff supervision within the physiotherapy service. Applicants must therefore be able to demonstrate leadership skills to assist in the development and growth of this established team and influence further service and pathway improvement. You will play an active role in audits and research.
NB: there is no overnight on call requirement for this post however you will be required to participate in weekend working.
Main duties of the job
1. To take the lead role in the clinical delivery and leadership of the Inpatient Stroke and Neurology physiotherapy services.
2. To provide a physiotherapy assessment and treatment service at an advanced level for patients who have been admitted to hospital via a neurological pathway and patients with a range of neurological conditions.
3. To work as a key member of the MDT, in the management of neurological patients admitted to hospital.
4. To lead in supervision, support, teaching and appraisal of physiotherapy staff and students, within the specialty.

Job responsibilities
1. Delivery of a neurology physiotherapy service to include ongoing service development, across acute and community.
2. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.
3. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management and support more junior staff to do likewise on a daily basis.
4. Provide supervision to registered staff (band 5 and 6, unregistered staff and students).
5. To provide a key focus for therapeutic clinical expertise, high quality advice and support to the multi-disciplinary team.
6. Data collection and communication between key stakeholders.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Hold a degree (or equivalent diploma) in Physiotherapy.
* Be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Evidence of study at Masters level (or equivalent).
Experience
* To demonstrate excellent leadership and interpersonal skills pertaining to the role within neurology.
* Have extensive post registration experience within neurology physiotherapy.
* Experience of integrating evidence based practice (EBP) into clinical pathways.
* To demonstrate expert knowledge and experience to determine clinical diagnosis for managing neurological presentations.
* To have expert knowledge and experience in the assessment, treatment and management of patients with highly complex conditions to act in a role extended beyond the usual scope of physiotherapy.
* Strong evidence of continuous professional development (CPD) within the specialty.
