A&R Manager
Description
Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for finding and developing the next big artists? Do you have strong negotiation skills and a deep understanding of music culture?
At Kurate Music we’re building long-term relationships with artists to help shape their careers and make a meaningful impact on culture. As an A&R, you’ll play a critical role in identifying and signing artists, helping them grow while securing deals that benefit both the artist and the company. If you’re not willing to put in the effort to close deals and fight for your artists, this isn’t the role for you.
What You’ll Do:
1. Lead in signing new talent: You’ll negotiate and close deals with artists who align with Kurate’s mission. Your goal is to create long-term partnerships, not just one-off deals.
2. Build and maintain relationships: You’ll be the key liaison between artists, managers, and the company, fostering long-term relationships that lead to mutual success.
3. Negotiate and close: You’ll handle contract negotiations, using your strong negotiation skills to ensure both parties benefit. You’ll be responsible for making deals that move quickly and efficiently.
4. Educate and support artists: You’ll help artists understand the industry and work closely with them to guide their development, ensuring they get the support they need.
5. Evaluate artists using data: You’ll use industry tools like ChartMetric, along with our bespoke system, to identify and evaluate talent, making informed decisions about which artists to pursue.
6. Collaborate across teams: You’ll work with marketing, promotions, and other departments to ensure every signing gets the full support of the label.
7. Problem Resolution: You’ll need to act quickly when something doesn't go to plan, using your creativity and teamwork to resolve any pressing issues relating to our artists and their releases.
What You’ll Bring:
1. Proven negotiation skills: You’ve successfully negotiated and closed deals, with a clear understanding of how to balance the needs of both the artist and the company.
2. Strong communication skills: You’re a people person who can build trust and rapport quickly and sustain relationships over the long term.
3. Data-driven approach: You understand the importance of using data to back up your instincts, and you’re comfortable with tools like ChartMetric, CRMs and Work management software.
4. Experience with artists: You have worked with artists in the past and understand the nuances of artist relationships, ensuring that they feel supported and understood.
5. Teamwork: You’ll need to lead artist deals while working closely with teams across the business to deliver results. If you’re not ready to work collaboratively, this role won’t suit you.
6. Experience in A&R: You’ve worked in A&R for at least two years or are keen to get into the music industry and have a very strong track record in creative industry sales.
We’re not for everyone:
If you’re looking for a passive role or if you’re not comfortable with being the driving force behind negotiations & new artist signings, this isn’t for you. We need someone who’s hungry to find, sign, and develop the best new talent while propelling our artists forward.
