An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our special schools team. The post holder will have a degree qualification in Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) and will be HCPC registered. They will have significant post-registration experience and will work as an autonomous practitioner. The post holder's primary role will be to take responsibility for providing a specialist speech and language therapy service to children with speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties in special schools and specialist provisions catering for children with complex needs. In addition, they may be required to deliver speech and language therapy assessment and management to children with a broad range of paediatric conditions within other areas of the Children's SLT service either as part of their normal timetable or on a rotational basis as required.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, intervention, management and discharge to children with speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties which may be associated with a range of medical conditions and complex learning needs, in the primary and secondary school age range. This service will be delivered in specialist educational provisions, community settings, and patient's homes. It may utilise a range of delivery modalities including face-to-face and virtual.
The post holder will support parents, carers, and school staff in the child's environment to facilitate and enhance the child's communication development and environment.
The post holder will contribute to the Additional Learning Needs (ALN) process, including the completion of statutory ALN requests and attendance at person-centred planning meetings for the development and review of Individual Development Plans. The post holder will also contribute to Individual Health Care Plans when appropriate.
The post holder will take part in service development projects, waiting list initiatives and audits. They will support the development of Band 5 speech and language therapists (SLTs) and provide supervision for Health Care Support Workers. They will provide clinical placements for undergraduate SLT students and participate in teaching/training of other professions.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
