The Service
Portman Street is a 24/7 emergency supported accommodation based in Glasgow south side for 30 men who are homeless. We are a registered housing support service.
The individuals we support have a wide variety of support needs including, but not limited to, mental health issues, substance misuse and learning disabilities.
The Job
The role of the Support Worker will be to key work the individuals that we support to build positive relationships to assist them to tackle the issues that led to their homelessness. Most are looking to move into their own tenancies and often require support focused on recovery and daily living skills. Due to the complex nature of the client group the role will consist of crisis intervention. To assist with harm reduction, we offer an IEP service and provide/carry naloxone.
The Candidate
You will:
Be confident in dealing with a homeless client group and have compassion and understanding for the issues homeless people face.
Either hold an SVQ2 in Health and Social Care or have the willingness to undertake study to achieve this.
All successful candidates will be required to obtain registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months of taking up the post.
