Main duties of the job
We are excited to advertise a 12 month fixed term maternity cover in the Microbiology laboratory at Southampton General Hospital.
The role involves working core hours, Monday-Friday 09:00-17:30.
We are looking for a specialist BMS with extensive knowledge in all aspects of Bacteriology.
The laboratory provides a full clinical diagnostic service including parasitology, mycology, an extensive AST section, and provides TB testing for several hospitals.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- IBMS Specialist diploma in Medical Microbiology required or equivalent experience in a clinical diagnostic lab.
- Support the day to day running of the section and be a point of contact for enquiries from junior staff.
- Strong training experience of staff at a wide range of grades.
- Strong understanding of Quality Control testing.
- Demonstrates inclusivity and accommodates and supports colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds.
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
* HCPC approved Biomedical Science degree (BSc) or other HCPC approved degree/top ups
* HCPC registered
* Evidence of current CPD activities
* Significant previous experience in a medical laboratory
* IBMS specialist portfolio (in relevant discipline) or equivalent
* IT competency (hospital IT systems, Outlook, Microsoft)
* Experience in a large acute hospital laboratory
