Line Manager: Head Chef
Overview of Responsibilities
* Manage the catering department effectively to meet all current legislation.
* Be responsible for the management of the catering department, ensuring it operates to the highest standard and is cost-efficient.
* Oversee all food preparation and supply service within the Home.
Specific Responsibilities
* Organise the kitchen routine and its effective operation.
* Comply with Food Standards Agency legislation.
* Maintain an excellent rating in the FSA food hygiene scheme.
* Undertake relevant training and updates.
* Prepare, cook, and dispatch meals.
* Ensure the correct and economical use of materials and equipment, including stock rotation.
* Adhere to all aspects of Health & Safety, including COSHH.
* Provide service users with the correct diet based on their health status or cultural beliefs.
* Demonstrate knowledge of nutritional values and the effects of poor nutrition on the client group.
* Check meals issued for quantity, quality, temperature, and appearance.
* Be aware of emergency procedures, including fire precautions and drills.
* Report mechanical defects and identify areas for improvement within the department.
* Work within an agreed budget.
* Ensure all kitchen areas are kept clean and report pest infestations to the Head Chef or Operations Manager.
* Maintain records and systems related to food safety.
* Keep records for delivery monitoring, temperature monitoring, and cleaning schedules.
* Ensure proper hand washing and personal hygiene practices are followed.
* Maintain good communication with clients, relatives, and other visitors.
Communication
* Communicate effectively with team members.
* Communicate effectively with patients and carers.
* Recognise and respond to people's needs for alternative methods of communication.
General Requirements
* Be flexible about working hours.
* Be approachable and supportive to staff and managers.
* Attend staff meetings and one-to-one sessions as agreed.
* Participate in training and development sessions as agreed with the Head Chef/Manager.
* Maintain confidentiality at all times.
* Comply with safe working practices as laid down by the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From £12.21 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
