Hours: 37.5 hrs Mon to Fri

Main purpose of the job
The department has recently reviewed the engineering and Estates structure, including introducing new roles in compliance and assurance. This role of PE fulfils the role of Coordinating Authorised Person (AP) and the candidate would have a depth of knowledge in at least one HTM safe system of work relevant to the post and the relevant regulatory standards.
The role will be to coordinate, develop and, support the Head of Estates in the management of the engineering team including existing or yet to be appointed subject-matter expert and relevant APs to ensure overall engineering compliance and safety (including oversight and audit of the various Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) for all Mechanical and Electrical disciplines to Fabric including but not limited to Ventilation, confined spaces and working at height).
Whilst the role will be to help oversee and coordinate all APs aspects of the hard FM Service (as well as to be part of all external AE audits to allow an overall and 'overview' compliance understanding, to manage the outcomes) a strong building services mechanical engineering bias would be an advantage to this role (as this is a subject matter area the Trust recognises it needs to develop better resilience and compliance).
The role will be part of the wider Estates team and there will be an expectation that the candidate for this Coordinating AP to support a short-term resource needs or project needs (so a good overall level of multidiscipline engineering competency will be required including, ideally, being a Chartered Engineer C.Eng.). The role, along with the Head of Estates and senior Estates management team, will be to help ensure the overall engineering governance and standards for the Trust are managed to Good Industry Practice (GIP) and within the best practice defined by the Health Technical Memoranda document set including HTM 00. Where this is not the case the individual will document this and proactively provide sustainable solutions to mitigate short term risks or system weakness whilst developing and implementing the plans for longer term fixes.
This will be a role that will have both professional responsibility (so competency, training and time-served practice in both healthcare and healthcare engineering infrastructure and systems is a must) as well as ensuring regular reporting to senior management on current state of play and/or system or infrastructure weaknesses. The role will also require excellent people skills as well as leadership. The candidate will be part of the Estates senior leadership team and will work collaboratively with colleagues within both Estates and the wider Space and Place teams to ensure effective management and delivery of services across the hospital and in line with the values of the organisation.
The candidate will be asked to contribute to the strategic plans for the estate including supporting the long terms plans for the estate strategy. The post holder will support long-term operational and strategic planning, including capital upgrades and development work with an expectation that they will lead and deliver on projects relevant to their specialist services.
The candidate will support the Head of Estates who manages the overall service. They will also provide advice, guidance, and support on a broad range of complex mechanical and wider engineering issues as we as supporting the development and reporting of wider engineering governance including robust risk reporting.
