A unique, rare and exciting opportunity has become available to become part of a highly motivated and dedicated Bone and Tissue Bank Team at Wrightington Hospital. We are a Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licensed establishment and are looking to recruit a Deputy Manager to support and assist our small team in the running of our bone donation and transplantation programme.
We collect bone donated from our patients undergoing hip replacement surgery which is tested and can be later used to help other patients in need of critical orthopaedic procedures. This new role will be mainly promoting bone donation, offering open honest information and receiving consent from potential donors. You must be passionate about the importance of tissue donation with a willingness to gain knowledge and learn valuable skills and with full training be named as a Person Designate (PD) on our HTA Licence.
Certificates will be requested at interview and during the onboarding process.
Main duties of the job
To raise awareness and promote bone donation to patients receiving hip replacement surgery. The successful applicant will work alongside the service manager monitoring all surgery activity contacting patients via telephone, meeting face to face to discuss bone donation offering the latest accurate advice, reassurance, and receiving consent. Other duties include handling donated tissues, processing donations and traceability documentation; attention to detail is a must for this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Other duties will include collaborating with colleagues including staff from various areas and on all levels, external companies to ensure all surgery requirements are met. Contacting other hospitals or patients in relation to donors' medical history, travel or lifestyle information maintaining a professional attitude at all times particularly when dealing with sensitive issues acting with complete confidentiality. This role has some physical aspects including moving donated tissues from minus 80 freezers, cleaning and defrosting freezers, preparing kits, receiving deliveries, handling human tissue promptly and safely. Taking part in audits, inspections carrying out competency assessments with staff involved in the programme.
