Quantity Surveyor

Salary: £40,000 - £60,000 (Experience Dependant)
Location: Dumfries
We are seeking an experienced and professional Quantity Surveyor to join a local, well-established family-run business. The role will cover the commercial aspects in returning tenders and dealing with commercial matters on operational contracts, as well as buying materials.
Responsibilities
1. Prepare detailed estimates within defined timescales on a variety of tenders.
2. Review and understand tender documents highlighting key aspects, pricing requirements, and areas of risk together with mitigation based on the scope of works, plans, specifications, BofQ's, schedules, and site inspections.
3. Assess tender information and organise quotations from external suppliers/subcontractors to produce a fully detailed quotation in accordance with the tender documentation.
4. Be creative to develop innovative alternative solutions to give a competitive edge.
5. Carry out tender adjudication meetings with senior management to review the estimate and overall tender price.
6. Ensure that all assumptions/exclusions are fully detailed both internally and externally to the client within tender return submission.
7. Maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
8. Work with senior managers to plan, forecast, and subsequently report project commercial performance.
9. Work with senior management to maximise the commercial benefit of all contracts and effectively manage contract variations.
10. Carry out various post-contract QS duties.
11. Monitor costs and reporting.
12. Negotiate, appoint, and control costs of subcontractors and specialist suppliers.
13. Liaise with key project personnel, external suppliers, and design teams to ensure all projects are run and delivered to budget, specification, and in a timely manner in accordance with health and safety and industry standards.
14. Attend site to ensure projects are on track and be available to resolve any commercial issues.

1. Excellent communication and IT skills.
