Job Title:
Senior Assistant - Exports – Global Freight Management
Location:
Manchester
Purpose of Role:
Working within the busy Freight Management team, the purpose of the role is to manage key customer’s requirements relating to their freight shipments.
Key Tasks:
1. Organising the export of varied cargo by any or a combination of transport modes
2. Liaise with customers to obtain shipment authorisations
3. Monitor and manage cargo movements from origin to final point of destination
4. Ensure full compliance of appropriate legislation, regulations, and all documentation relevant to the movement of cargo
5. Develop and maintain close relationships with customers
6. Provide regular communication to customers of shipment progress
7. Manage Customs processes necessary for the export of shipments
8. Resolve any service issues for the customer
9. Obtain rates and prepare quotations on request or on receipt of a booking
10. Manage bookings through online shipping line portals
11. Maintain own P & L’s weekly
12. Prepare documents for invoicing
13. Liaising with customers to determine other opportunities for new lanes / activity
14. To perform any other duties not defined in the job description as reasonably requested / expected by the Company

1. A methodical approach with excellent communication skills
2. The ability to communicate effectively at all levels
3. An understanding of the importance of attention to detail and quality of product
4. A flexible hands-on approach to work and willing to complete a variety of tasks
5. Ability to work to strict deadlines and under pressure
6. Ability to work within a team and on own initiative
Knowledge and Experience:
1. Previous experience of international shipping process and Freight Forwarding is essential
2. Previous experience of working with Cargowise is an advantage, but not essential as training will be given
3. Knowledge of multimodal export and/or cross trade activities is an advantage
4. Proficient in the use of word/excel and email
5. Previous administrative experience is essential
6. Excellent organisational, problem solving and decision-making skills
7. Previous experience of working within a fast-paced environment
