Locum Appointment for Training (LAT) at ST4(+) Level in Rheumatology

Applications are invited from trainee doctors who have recently completed or about to finish Core Medical Training or equivalent to apply for the position of LAT in Rheumatology. This is a 1 year post to cover current ST moving into a research post.
This exciting post offers the opportunity to work in within Rheumatology at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. The focus of the posts will be around delivery of outpatient clinics and ward reviews of patients referred to the rheumatology team. There are no dedicated rheumatology in patient beds. The successful candidate can expect to receive tailored support, education and training from consultants within the departments to help them develop and improve key skills in this area. There will also be an expectation that the trainee will attend and participate in the departmental MDT and educational meetings. There are also opportunities around teaching and education, management and leadership development. If the applicant requires ongoing exposure to general medicine (e.g. leading acute medical receiving shifts) this can be incorporated within core hours to meet training requirements.
The rheumatology service functions as a fully integrated unit with all members contributing to a team-based approach to patient care and this appointment will play an important role in the continuing development and redesign. The department consists of 4 consultants, 1 specialist doctor, 2 specialist nurses, a rheumatology registrar (this post), a rheumatology pharmacist and 3 rheumatology secretaries. We also have dedicated allied health professional support through physiotherapy, occupational therapy and podiatry. The rheumatology department care for patients with the full range of rheumatological diseases including early inflammatory arthritis, vasculitis and connective tissue disease. We have a significant cohort of patients on advanced targeted therapies. We also provide joint injections and focussed musculoskeletal ultrasound.
There is no acute medicine or on-call commitment with this post. If the successful candidate wishes to join the staff bank, locum opportunities within Forth Valley may be available.
The appointment will be on a full-time basis and remuneration will be determined by the pay and conditions of hospital medical and dental staff (NHS Circular: PCS (DD) 2024/01).
