We want you to join our team on Laurel 2 Oncology, which is based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. Laurel 2 consist of a 17 bed inpatient unit together with an Acute Oncology Service, which promotes patient flow by diverting acutely unwell Oncology/Hematology patients away from ED into the assessment bay.
The department cares for patients with a range of cancers who are receiving systemic anti-cancer therapies. We are looking for someone who wants to increase their Oncology experience and wants to work within this rewarding environment. If you have phlebotomy skills it will be an advantage, but if not, then you should have enthusiasm and dexterity to develop these skills. The ability to communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team is essential. Previous HCA experience is desirable but not essential. You will be supported in this post by senior staff and the Unit Manager. In return we will offer you excellent learning and developmental opportunities. Main duties of the job
Your role as a Health Care Assistant (HCA) is to work alongside registered nurse as part of the ward or department team to provide care to patients.
The types of duties include: washing and dressing patients, serving patients meals, assisting with feeding patients when necessary, helping people to mobilise, assisting patients with toileting, bed-making, generally assisting with patients' overall comfort, monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight.
Acting with compassion you will put patients at the centre of all you do.
You will communicate effectively with patients and their carers.
This role will require you to work variable hours on a rota including nights and weekends.
You will show courage by embracing new ways of working and doing the right thing by the people you care for, including speaking up when you have concerns.

Job responsibilities
You will assist with washing and dressing patients, using hoists as appropriate.
You will assist with serving meals and feeding patients, including reporting on their intake and recording on charts as appropriate.
You will assist with toileting, escorting patients to and from the lavatory and recording outputs where necessary.
You will assist with monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight
You will assist with patients mobilisation, ensuring safe environment and using appropriate techniques.
You will make beds and help to ensure the ward/department is kept clean, tidy and safe.
You will communicate with patients and their relatives with care and compassion.
You will help to ensure that patients are kept comfortable and receive personalised care.
You will be involved in patient booking in / admission, introducing patients to ward / department area as directed by registered nurse.
You will assist with the recording and safe keeping of patients property and valuables.
You will assist the multi professional team to prepare and support patients undergoing treatment and / or investigation maintaining privacy and dignity at all times.
You will safeguard vulnerable adults.
You will report to the nurse in charge of the ward / department matters of concern relating to patients and the ward / department environment.
You will undertake duties outside your working area ( delivery and collection) to assist in maintaining good communication.
You will ensure the privacy and dignity of patients is met at all times.
You will be adaptable and flexible to working in various areas of the department or ward as required.
