About the role
The Governing Body of Wyke Regis Primary Federation is seeking to appoint an experienced administrator as Clerk to Governors as soon as possible. We are seeking a reliable, well-organised individual that is able to work under their own initiative to deadlines whilst providing administrative support to the Governing Body.
The successful candidate will be required to:
1. Prepare and distribute agendas and enclosures for full governing body and committee meetings
2. Take accurate and concise minutes
3. Co-ordinate the governing body in an efficient manner
4. Advise the governing body on legal, constitutional and procedural matters (training will be provided)
5. Attend Clerk’s briefing sessions
6. Liaise with Dorset County Council’s Governor Services Department
7. Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills
Please see attached person specification for further details. Training and ongoing support in all aspects of the role will be available to you from Dorset Council's Governor Services Department.
With the exception of actual meetings, the majority of the role could be carried out from home or in school at a time to suit the post holder as preferred. There are currently 6 full governing body meetings and approximately 10 committee meetings per academic year. The job holder will need to be flexible with regard to working hours and days as this is dependent on the prescribed meeting schedule of the Governing Body. At present, the meetings take place at various times and are a mixture of virtual and face-to-face. The salary for the role has been calculated as an average of 6 hours per week term time only, however the majority of the hours would be worked on and around the dates of the meetings.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. The amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975, (2013 and 2020)) provide that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. The MOJ’s guidance on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Exceptions Order 1975 provides information about which convictions must be declared during job applications and related exceptions and further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guide.
Keeping Children Safe in Education
Wyke Regis Primary Federation will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not be on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
