Job Purpose
Internal job title: Community Engagement Coordinator
Hours: 22.5 hours over 3 days (flexible)
Contract: Fixed term contract or secondment until 31/07/2026.
We are the charity that manages and revitalizes 2,000 miles of waterways across England and Wales, believing that life is better by water. Every role within the Trust contributes to transforming our canals and rivers into vibrant spaces where communities can spend time and improve wellbeing.
We are seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator to lead community engagement for the National Lottery Heritage-funded Vitality from the Vyrnwy project on the Montgomery Canal. This role involves restoring the Vyrnwy aqueduct and engaging local communities to develop initiatives that enhance physical and mental wellbeing through access to waterways, addressing barriers to engagement.
The successful candidate will:
1. Recruit, train, and support volunteers, including young people, and lead practical volunteering, training, and engagement sessions for various community groups.
2. Adopt a place-based approach, collaborating with partners to change perceptions and usage patterns within a 1km radius, fostering community ownership and sustaining momentum for wellbeing benefits.
This project aligns with the Trust’s goal of increasing access to waterways for millions across England and Wales.
Location & Coverage
Role offered on a remote basis with attendance at main hub spaces as needed for team meetings. Significant travel across the regional waterway network will be required for site visits and improvements. Ideally, candidates will reside in Powys, Wrexham, Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, or Greater Manchester.
Initially, expect to spend 2-3 days on-site during the first 6 months.
