Band 6 Rotational Physiotherapist - Neurological Therapy Services
An exciting rotational band 6 opportunity has arisen within the Neurological Therapy team at Barnet Hospital. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic staff member with a visionary outlook to join our team, where you will be able to develop and enhance your skills of working within stroke and neurology. Rotations include:
* 24-bedded Acute Stroke Unit
* Neuro Community (based at Edgware Community Hospital)
* Acute neurological inpatients (including spinal injuries + traumatic brain injuries)
* Neurological outpatients
You will be joining a friendly, dynamic and cohesive integrated therapy team which prides itself on a close working relationship with the MDT. Therapists have a high profile within the Trust, and the neurological therapy team play a key role in the development of the Stroke, Spinal and Trauma services.
We are looking for a physiotherapist who demonstrates:
* a positive and flexible approach
* advanced communication skills
* strong knowledge of stroke and other neurological conditions
* experience in the treatment and management of a varied and complex neurological caseload
* a patient-centred approach to all aspects of care
The department operates a 7-day service and you will be expected to work one weekend in four on a rota basis.
Main duties of the job
* To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner whilst facilitating effective multidisciplinary care within all relevant clinical areas.
* To work in an integrated therapy team including other physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, speech and language therapists, therapy support workers and administration support.
* To provide an advanced standard of physiotherapy assessment and treatment to inpatients without direct supervision. Access to advice and support from a team lead is available as and when required. Clinical work is routinely evaluated.
* To work with patient's families or carers to provide an advanced level of support, education and expectation of the outcome of the inpatient stay.
* To supervise, teach and appraise Band 5 physiotherapists and support workers.
* To participate in Continuing Professional Development, evidence-based audit and research projects that will enhance the service.
* The band 6 Physiotherapist will be included in the 7-day working roster, which involves working up to 1 weekend every 4 weeks, plus 2 Bank Holidays per annum. 2 consecutive scheduled days off will be given in the week before or after the weekend worked and Agenda for Change pay enhancements apply.

Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* HCPC registration
* Diploma/degree in physiotherapy
* Member of special interest group
* Evidence of attendance at relevant postgraduate courses
Experience
* Experience in a broad rotational post, including core rotations of Cardio-Respiratory, Orthopaedics, Neurology & Rehabilitation
* Experience in a Neurology rotation at Band 5 or 6 level
* Experience of working at band 6 level
* Able to make decisions in an emergency and work under pressure.
* Able to document information accurately
* Able to demonstrate sound reasoning skills
* Effective Communication Skills.
* Evidence of teaching and supervision skills
* Evidence of student or physiotherapy assistant supervision
Personal Attributes
* Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of current physiotherapy in relevant area
* Awareness of Evidence Based practice.
* Understanding of legal responsibilities of the profession such as confidentiality, consent and documentation.
* Understanding of clinical governance and its implication for services, including experience of quality issues and audit
* Evidence of attendance at relevant postgraduate courses
