Sue Ryder is seeking a dedicated and experienced Clinical Services Manager to lead our Online Bereavement Counselling Service. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference, ensuring that bereaved individuals receive high-quality, safe, and confidential support.
Purpose of the Role
As Clinical Services Manager, you will oversee the effective delivery of our Online Bereavement Counselling Service as the lead clinician. You will ensure that our service is high quality, safe, and confidential for all users. Working within the stepped care model, including Level 3 interventions (NICE guidance 2004), you will oversee time-limited, one-to-one therapeutic online counselling, incorporating clinical tools such as the Adult Attitude to Grief Scale.
You will work closely with the Head of Bereavement and Grief Services and the Clinical Director of Bereavement and Grief to drive improvements in quality, productivity, and user experience.
Main duties of the job
As Clinical Services Manager, you will:
1. Lead the day-to-day operations of our Online Bereavement Counselling and Palliative Care Counselling services.
2. Oversee clinical governance, ensuring best practices in safeguarding and confidentiality.
3. Manage risk assessments, responding to client concerns and complaints.
4. Provide leadership to our team of professional counsellors, ensuring excellence in service delivery.
5. Support marketing and communications efforts to raise awareness of our services.
6. Monitor and improve service quality through clinical audits and compliance reporting.

What We’re Looking For
To be successful in this role, you will have:
1. Accreditation with a relevant professional body - BACP/UKCP.
2. A Diploma/Degree in Counselling or Psychotherapy.
3. A Supervision qualification, ideally with accreditation.
4. Extensive experience in bereavement, loss, and grief counselling.
5. Experience leading and managing large counselling teams and services.
6. A strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and online service provision.
7. Knowledge of clinical tools such as the Adult Attitude to Grief Scale.

Experience
Essential
* Significant clinical experience and/or training in complex client issues and risk.
* Significant, demonstrable knowledge and/or training in working with bereavement, loss and grief.
* Significant experience in leading, managing and holding clinical responsibility for large counselling services and teams.
* Experience in providing psychological counselling via online delivery.
* Experience of service management and leadership.
* High level understanding of legal, ethical and data aspects pertinent to providing an online counselling service.
* Knowledge of current research and practice in the field of bereavement.
* Knowledge of the Dual Process Model and the Adult Attitude to Grief Scale.
Qualifications
Essential
* Accredited member of a relevant professional body BACP/UKCP
* Diploma/Degree in Counselling or Psychotherapy (in line with minimum practising standards of BACP/UKCP)
* Supervision qualification and ideally accreditation
* Online counselling qualification (minimum of 80 hours study), evidence of significant continued professional development in this area and a willingness to undertake formal and continuous training
* Additional training in short-term counselling models
* Qualification or significant experience in management, business coaching and mentoring
