SEND Key Worker
Location: Stoke-on-Trent
Contract: 3 months
Pay: £16-£20 per day (umbrella ltd)
We are seeking dedicated SEND Key Workers to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across Stoke-on-Trent. This role involves delivering high-quality statutory assessments, developing and maintaining Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), and collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure inclusive and effective support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake statutory assessments and maintain EHCPs for children with SEND, managing a caseload and updating plans as required.
- Liaise with childcare, education, and vocational providers to identify suitable placements for children with EHCPs.
- Coordinate a person-centred, multi-agency approach to assessments, planning, and support, ensuring families and young people are active partners in the EHCP process.
- Serve as the Named Officer and key contact for settings, schools, colleges, and specialist institutions within the local authority.
- Attend and chair multi-agency meetings, analyse multi-disciplinary advice, and make balanced recommendations for outcomes-focused support.
- Engage with families to resolve SEND support issues, direct them to advocacy services, and participate in mediations and appeals, including First Tier Tribunal cases.
- Monitor progress of commissioned provisions, ensuring individual outcomes are achieved.
- Advise schools on meeting SEND needs, including effective use of SEND funding.
- Allocate, monitor, and review resources for EHCP implementation, including personal budgets.
Qualifications:
- Degree-level qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Social Work, Health, Educational Psychology) or equivalent (e.g., NVQ Level 4 in Advice & Guidance, PGCE, Social Work).
Knowledge and Experience:
- Extensive experience in early years, schools, colleges, local authorities, or health settings supporting children and young people with SEND.
- Strong track record of partnership working with school staff, agencies, and families.
- Skilled in statutory assessments, multi-agency collaboration, and delivering support services.
- Knowledge of statutory frameworks and legal requirements for SEND services, person-centred approaches, and outcome-focused practices.
- Proficient in reviewing performance, evaluating targets, and delivering evaluative reports to professional audiences.
