HCSW - Bostonian Ward - Band 2
We recognise that outstanding care can only be delivered through our people. We want to attract people who can help us deliver our vision.
We are always keen to welcome highly skilled, committed and compassionate individuals to our hospitals – people who put patients at the heart of everything they do and are ready to help us achieve our vision.
Our values guide everything we do. They are:
* Patient-centred: Putting patients at the heart of everything we do, listening and responding to their needs and wishes.
* Safety: Following ULHT and professional guidelines. Speaking up to make sure patients and staff are safe from harm.
* Excellence: Striving to be the best that we can be. Innovating and learning from others.
* Compassion: Caring for patients and their loved ones in ways we would want for our friends and family.
* Respect: Behaving and using language that demonstrates respect and courtesy to others. Zero tolerance to bullying, inequality, prejudice and discrimination.
If you believe in them too, then you are ready to join the ULHT team.
We’ve taken great pride in building working environments where staff always feel valued, cared for and part of a team. Without doubt this is a challenging yet very rewarding job that is at the centre of health and care in Lincolnshire - making a positive difference to our patients.
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Support Worker to join our friendly and energetic team on Bostonian Ward. We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic and self-motivated health professional to join our well-established team.
Bostonian is an 18 bedded acute Haematology and Oncology ward that cares for male and female patients. The ward has a high acuity, fast-paced clinical admissions setting that cares for acutely unwell patients as a result of haematological and oncological conditions such as spinal cord compression and neutropenic sepsis as well as facilitating the delivery of chemotherapy.
Main duties of the job
The ward admits patients as either an emergency through the Emergency Department, through the oncology assessment unit, or self-referral, via outpatient clinics or electively for chemotherapy, oncology and haematology treatment. The healthcare team is supported by a team of healthcare support workers, Band 5 nurses, band 6 deputy sisters, a clinical educator, and housekeepers as well as the ward manager. We have a medically engaged team who also provide ward based training and education to all staff.
About the role: Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, you will work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, to contribute to the provision of the highest standards of patient care delivered with dignity, respect, and compassion. The role involves working as an autonomous health care professional and will include providing holistic palliative care to end of life patients as well as managing the conditions and side effects associated with cancer. You will be responsible for providing a high level of care and support working either days or nights on a full-time basis alongside the multi-disciplinary team.
