We are looking to welcome candidates for a 7 PA Consultant post in Palliative Medicine based at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be primarily based in the Scarborough palliative care team.
The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients from and around Scarborough.
Main duties of the job
* Provide a comprehensive, high-quality service to patients with Specialist Palliative Care needs from Scarborough and surrounding areas ensuring excellent evidence-based care.
* Support and educate clinical teams in hospital and primary care to develop and deliver high-quality care to patients with specialist palliative care needs including those approaching the end of life.
* Contribute to the strategic development of palliative and end of life care services across York Teaching Hospitals' catchment area working closely with local hospices and other local providers and commissioners to deliver an integrated model of end-of-life care.
* Provide an "on call" 1 in 14 telephone cover for all care settings in York, Scarborough, Harrogate and Hull.
* Work with the End of Life and Palliative care lead Nurse to implement the Trust's End of Life and Palliative Care Strategy to ensure the delivery of effective specialist palliative care and end of life services in the area.
* Provide consultant input into the hospital palliative care team, attend MDTs and provide joint assessments to patients in York Hospitals with specialist palliative care needs.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Hold of license to practise with the General Medical Council.
* Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Palliative Medicine via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights (within 6 months of completing a training programme recognised for the award of CCT or equivalent).
* MRCP or equivalent higher qualification.
* MD or equivalent Higher Degree or relevant research in Palliative medicine, Education or Ethics.
* Substantive NHS experience.
Clinical Practice
* Experience in organisation of specialist palliative care services.
* Ability to demonstrate clinical experience and skill in Palliative Medicine.
* Experience of working in or setting up a clinical decision unit service.
Mentoring and Teaching
* Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.
* Experience of supervising SpRs/specialist trainees.
* Experience of supervision of postgraduate trainees.
* Experience of teaching lay groups and paramedical staff.
Research and Audit
* Knowledge of palliative care literature.
* Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
