Job Opportunity: Consultant in Ear, Nose & Throat Surgery (Service Improvement and Transformation Lead)
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Consultant in ENT Surgery to join our dynamic team. This is a fantastic opportunity for consultants passionate about driving innovation and improving patient care in ENT services.
Role Overview
As a Consultant in ENT Surgery with a focus on Service Improvement and Transformation, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of ENT services across the Trust. You’ll work closely with our established team to deliver high-quality care to both adult and paediatric patients. This full-time post comprises 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) but offers flexibility for part-time applicants.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide general ENT surgical services, with an opportunity to develop subspecialty interests such as Rhinology, Laryngology or Paediatric ENT Surgery.
2. Lead the implementation of service improvements in line with GIRFT Further Faster recommendations.
3. Collaborate with regional networks and West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT) to enhance care delivery.
4. Perform outpatient clinics, operating theatre sessions, virtual RAS clinics, and share on-call duties on a 1:6 rota.
5. Engage in teaching, clinical governance, and research, contributing to the development of our future workforce.

Job Plan
The successful candidate will have a job plan tailored to meet the collective needs of the individual and services provided, to include a selection or all of the following:
1. ENT clinics (including Fast track)
2. General Anaesthetic theatre working
3. Clinical triage, advice and guidance
4. Patient administration
5. SPA (1.5PA, of which 0.5PA flexible)
6. Potential to lead Transformation and work to GIRFT standards
7. Service development
8. Audit and Research opportunities
9. Monthly Clinical Governance
The Trust wishes to ensure that Consultants have time in their job plan to undertake Supporting Professional Activities which underpin and maintain high quality patient care. The Trust Board and Local Negotiating Committee have agreed that a Core allocation of 1.5 SPAs should be allocated to undertake CPD, appraisal, clinical supervision, audit and clinical governance, mandatory training and the general management of the service. Objectives should be agreed at the Job Plan review meeting with regards to this SPA.
