Do you aspire to work for an ‘Outstanding’ Local Authority?
Here at Telford and Wrekin Council, we have been judged to be outstanding overall in terms of effectiveness (the only Authority in the West Midlands with this judgement).
Here’s just some of the great things Ofsted had to say when they visited us recently:
* Children are cared for and cared about
* Social Workers and other staff who support children are very committed and they are exceptionally well trained
* Children are listened to and their experiences are well understood
* Senior Leaders aspire to a service for every child that they would welcome for their own
* Children benefit from a stable workforce which is highly committed and experienced
* Staff experience a wide range of development opportunities
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Social Worker and Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to be part of our generic Emergency Duty Team (EDT). This busy team is very experienced, highly supportive, friendly and extremely enthusiastic about what they do.
We provide an emergency social work service for adults and children believed to be at risk of significant harm; and for whom delay until the next working day would be detrimental. The EDT responds to a variety of statutory and non-statutory social care emergencies. These can include the most serious child protection concerns, adult safeguarding concerns, homelessness and complex mental health act assessments.
We operate outside office hours. The service runs from 17:00 on weekdays until 09.00 the following day. At weekends and bank holidays cover is provided 24 hours a day.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a small team of Senior Social Workers and a Team Manager who are all competent in operating within children’s and adult social care, homelessness and mental health legislation.
You need to have a Social Work qualification, AMHP status or be willing to achieve this, together with substantial post-qualification experience in social care. You will have high professional standards and an ability to operate autonomously. You will be registered with Social Work England.
You will have the ability to manage competing service priorities and demonstrate personal resilience, sound decision making and excellent all round communication and negotiation skills. You will be required to liaise with and work alongside all social care disciplines and partner agencies.
If you feel this role may be for you, we would be delighted to hear from you. For an informal discussion please contact Debbie Owen, Team Manager; e-mail: debbie.owen@telford.gov.uk.
