The role of the Practice Development Nurse will be to support the Primary Care Professional Nurse Lead to identify and develop the education and training needs of Primary Care Nurses across the region. In line with strategic frameworks, policies and best practice guidelines, training delivered needs to meet the needs of a diverse patient population group.
The Role
The post holder will:

4. Foster a culture of learning across Primary Care to deliver exceptional care standards
The post holder will act as an advocate and lead for the GPN workforce across the Health board, establishing links with local and national forums and groups to deliver training programmes. Work alongside education leads to access funding opportunities for the post-registered nursing workforce, healthcare support workers, and support facilitation of placements for pre-registration students in Primary Care. Participate in clinical audits and research to identify areas for quality improvement, developing learning packages to facilitate improvements, acting as a change agent to ensure the best care is delivered.
Main duties of the job
1. Work collaboratively with the DHON for Primary Care, Primary Care Academy, and those within multidisciplinary teams to facilitate high standards of training covering a multitude of competencies and opportunities to increase staff engagement in training to develop their own practice.
2. Demonstrate expert knowledge and advanced clinical skills relevant to the specialty to act as a role model providing high standards of care underpinned by best practice guidelines and relevant practical experience.
3. Identify areas of practice within Primary Care where advanced skills may be required and take the lead in ensuring adequate numbers of nursing staff maintain competency in this area for patient safety.
4. Take the lead in developing education and training packages to ensure recommendations from audits are delivered.
5. Provide leadership, motivation, and vision to staff to aid development and manage change.
6. Confidently lead group meetings discussing statistics and reports for practice development improvements.
7. Facilitate the implementation of clinical risk management principles in line with Primary Care contractual procedures.
8. Work collaboratively with the DHON and Nursing Group Director to address and respond to any incidents, complaints, or investigations arising as a result of poor practice.
