Job Description
Matchtech are supporting the recruitment for a System Safety Assurance Engineer to work with a key client in TORONTO. This role does require the suitable candidate to relocate to Toronto for the position.
Responsibilities:
1. Accountable for leading safety assurance for various projects, ensuring compliance with relevant international safety and technical standards such as EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508, CSM-RA, and CMREA.
2. Accountable for reporting on progress, managing staff competence and development, and maintaining an internal audit schedule to ensure projects follow governance.
3. Coordinate safety studies carried out throughout the life cycle of the process to ensure safety requirements are met.
4. Manage, perform, and ensure that safety assurance activities are applied in the projects.
5. Manage Hazard Log, review RAM, V&V, and T&C activities from a safety perspective.
6. Manage the creation of and approve Safety Reports and the Safety Case.
7. Prepare technical reports for submission to management, clients, and regulatory authorities.
8. Lead safety engineering activities for a wide range of rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with relevant standards.
9. Facilitate HAZOP / HAZID workshops, planning, running, and writing up the workshops independently.
10. Manage risk assessments for specific discipline areas, independently planning, running, and writing up risk workshops.
11. Possess a working knowledge of Safety Methods: Safety Plan, Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Failure Modes and Effects Critical Analysis (FMECA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Interface Hazard Analysis (IHA), Operation & Support Hazard Analysis (OSHA), Safety related Item List (SRIL), Hazard Log (HL), V&V Safety Report, and Safety Case.
12. Undertake technical analyses and reviews of Engineering Safety Management documentation and project assurance deliverables.
13. Foster a safety culture and be seen as a safety role model on the project.
Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent training.
2. 5-10 years of relevant experience.
3. Relevant safety designations are an asset.
4. High degree of technical proficiency in dealing with all safety-related aspects of large-scale and complex Railway projects, involving multiple players.
5. Strong knowledge of modern Railway projects, including various components/systems that these projects consist of.
6. Expertise in the application of safety standards such as EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508, CSM-RA, and CMREA.
7. Expertise in creating a Hazard Log, FMECA, FTA, IHA, OSHA, etc.
8. Knowledge of design and construction management aspects of Railway Projects.
9. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to manage internal and external stakeholders.
