Human Factors Specialist
We are looking for a Human Factors Specialist for our Peterborough, Ontario site. BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems.
JOB SUMMARY:
At BWXT, you will work on technically challenging projects as a member of the Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineering team in support of on-power refueling systems for CANDU reactors. You will be immersed in the design of automated and semi-automated fueling machines, robotic systems, and maintenance tooling for CANDU reactors and other related systems, as part of a multi-disciplinary design team. BWXT is seeking an experienced individual (minimum 5 years experience) to support engineering activities through the completion of Human Factors assessments in compliance with CNSC requirements, CSA N290.12-14 - Human factors in design for nuclear power plants, and the NUREG-0711 - Human Factors Engineering Program Review Model.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Supporting the execution of operating experience reviews, functional requirements analysis, task analysis, human error analysis, making human factors design recommendations as well as verification and/or acceptance of other Human Factors Specialist work.
* Assessing the required level of Human Factors Engineering involvement based on project scope.
* Developing Human Factors Engineering Program Plans.
* Applying your knowledge of hardware and software controls, displays, annunciations and evaluations of interactions between the Human System Interface and the User(s).
* Documenting analysis results in Human Factors Engineering Summary Reports.
* Supporting the development of Human Factors Engineering Verification and Validation Plans.
* Performing and documenting design verification and validation activities.
* Providing input to the creation of proposals which focus on or include Human Factors Engineering scope.
* As required, support other engineering deliverables.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Degree in Human Factors Engineering, Engineering Psychology, Industrial Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related science with a focus on Human Factors coursework.
* Experience level: 5+ years, Qualified Human Factors Specialist.
* P.Eng. or eligibility to obtain in near future.
* Demonstrable experience in Human Factors Design, in regulated, high consequence industries such as Nuclear, Aerospace, Defense, Oil and Gas and Medical.
* Excellent communication, presentation and documentation skills.
* Ability to effectively interface with project team members, vendors and customers to ensure scope and requirements of the project are understood, and to ensure the project is executed per the project schedule and budget.
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
* Active membership within a recognized Human Factors/Ergonomics society (e.g., HFES, ACE).
* Experience in the Canadian Nuclear Industry.
* General understanding of Engineering Change Control (ECC) concepts for the nuclear industry or other industries.
* Human Factors Qualifications at OPG/ Bruce Power.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $87,000.00 and $135,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
