We are looking to appoint motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Nurses who are hard working and willing to learn and develop their knowledge and skills. The successful candidates will be expected to work in line with the Trust values where professionalism and confidentiality are maintained at all times. You should be able to demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfil this role. We currently have vacancies at the Barnet neonatal unit, which is a Level 2 LNU with 30 cots including Intensive care and High dependency cots; with a friendly, motivated, and a dynamic team that promote Family Integrated Care. We work very closely with Royal Free Hospital which is our sister hospital, with a Level 1 SCBU with 12 Special Care and 2 HDU costs. You will have the opportunity to rotate between the two units as a means of developing your skills.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role are:
* Deliver direct patient care to babies meeting the criteria for High Dependency and Special Care levels of needs.
* Dealing with clinical emergencies as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Clear communication with parents and colleagues.
* Help and support parents, keeping them updated about their babies.
* Teach and support students and new staff.
* Take part in quality improvement projects on the unit.
* Complete timely discharge planning for babies on the unit.
Job responsibilities
* To undertake all nursing procedures and practises in accordance with Neonatal Unit policies and in conjunction with the Trust's policies.
* To be an associate nurse resource for the babies, their families, and the multi-disciplinary team.
* To manage care in conjunction with the principal care coordinator or senior nurse.
* To assess, plan and implement nursing care in negotiation with the child, family, and multi-disciplinary team to ensure individualised nursing care.
* To evaluate nursing care using the computerised nursing information system, facilitate discussion with the multi-disciplinary and implement appropriate nursing developments in the best interest of the child and family.
* To always act in a manner to promote the wellbeing of the baby and family and undertake personal and clinical development to ensure safe practise.
* To assist medical staff in the treatment and care of babies.
* To communicate with the principal care coordinator and multi-disciplinary team to ensure high standards of nursing care are delivered.
* To maintain accurate and comprehensive nursing records, using appropriate documentation, and ensure their confidentiality and safe keeping.
* To organise workload in line with clinical priorities.
* To always behave in a manner that is professional, positive, and polite.
* To always act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct with reference to limitations of competence and conduct.

Experience
