About Us
We are Newham, and we are building a fairer Newham for our residents. We are five miles east of the City of London and changing rapidly. Our part of East London continues to enjoy substantial investment. This helps us towards building a positive public realm environment for our residents.
We are committed to tackling the high levels of toxic pollution from vehicles which contribute to significant air quality issues in Newham. We are therefore working with residents to create a healthier borough, resilient in the face of the climate emergency. A major part of this is delivering urban greening improvements to help clean our air and provide a range of environmental benefits.
Our Landscape Architecture team is expanding and we need another talented Landscape Architect in Highways and Sustainable Transport. We have a diverse portfolio of work in capital funded public realm projects. To achieve our promises to residents, we need people who are driven and ready to deliver the very best for our communities. We are working on significant projects supported by a range of funding sources and we are now seeking enthusiastic applicants with suitable experience for this two year fixed term Landscape Architect role.
About the Job
Our team is a key part of the wider Highways and Sustainable Transport service. The Landscape Architect role is involved in the design and delivery of urban greening improvements associated with major highways projects, active and sustainable travel projects, public open spaces, and a range of community led projects where public realm and green infrastructure opportunities can be optimised. We have projects at all stages of design, construction and maintenance, working with highly motivated people focused on delivery.
This role is a key part in providing a highly effective Landscape Architecture service. This covers all stages of design and delivery with opportunities to engage with communities and gain significant experience in delivering projects on site. The role will often mean working with other departments including Greenspace to develop sustainable strategies around planting maintenance. In this position you will be motivated to create better places for our residents, working closely with Project Managers and Engineers on a daily basis to deliver exciting projects. In short you will be a part of a fantastic team!
We are able to offer working arrangements that will enhance your work/life balance combining flexible remote and at home working along with agreed anchor days to work in the office with team members.
About You
You must have suitable experience working in public realm design to Stage 4, including visualisation, detailed design and sustainable planting design. You must have a relevant degree and will also be an Associate Member of the Landscape Institute on the pathway to Chartership (or very recently Chartered).
You will be self-motivated and keen to work with and contribute to a team environment. You will have excellent communication skills and be confident in engaging with the public, members, colleagues and contractors. You will also be keen to learn and develop new skills. Experience in a similar public sector role would be an advantage.
