About Us The Sherwood Forest Trust is a dedicated charity working to protect the natural and cultural heritage of Sherwood Forest. From restoring heathlands to engaging communities with nature and history, we’re committed to preserving this special place for future generations. Thanks to National Heritage Fund support, we’re launching an exciting three-year conservation programme to improve lowland heathlands and engage people with the forest through walks, learning sessions, and wildlife surveys. About the Role As Conservation Manager, you will lead the delivery of sustainable landscape management programmes, focusing on conserving, restoring, and managing heathland and woodland within the Sherwood Forest Landscape Character Area. Your responsibilities will include: Project Delivery: Managing conservation projects, ensuring all necessary permissions (including SSSI consents) are secured, and maintaining key records using tools like MapInfo. Land Management Planning: Developing and maintaining biodiversity plans for community greenspaces and commercial sites to enhance local and landscape-level biodiversity. Contract and Budget Management: Overseeing contracts and managing budgets to ensure projects remain on track. Community Conservation: Collaborating with the Community Conservation Officer to empower volunteers and local groups to actively engage in conservation efforts. Staff and Volunteer Management: Providing line management for designated staff and ensuring a positive experience for volunteers. Partnership Building: Establishing and nurturing relationships with landowners, government agencies, and other key stakeholders. Health & Safety Compliance: Ensuring all conservation activities meet health and safety standards. Key Skills and Competencies We’re looking for someone who is: A skilled communicator, capable of engaging and inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds. Experienced in delivering conservation or land management projects, with a proven track record of working with contractors, landowners, and community groups. Organised and proactive, with strong project management and time management skills. Passionate about biodiversity and conservation, with the ability to lead by example and motivate others. Knowledgeable in ecological surveying and habitat management, with a good understanding of local wildlife and environmental policies.
