Base pay range
The team is responsible for the management of the financial close process, which includes producing a full and complete ledger (interfaces, reconciliations and both actuarial and financial journals) as well as cost, project, investment and tax accounting for the Group and its subsidiary companies. This role includes that ownership, control and running of the daily box management process including resolving issues and reducing the risk and exposure.
Purpose of role:
1. The Investment Accounting team is responsible for the oversight of the outsourced Investment accounting provider on behalf of the group and provides assurance around valuation uncertainty in addition to ensuring appropriate investment accounting control and expertise.
2. The role requires assisting in driving and facilitating technical accounting support, the delivery of investment data controls, oversight, provision and data analysis for the Solvency II group (re Ireland).
3. Daily Box management processes from underlying systems to the Asset Manager.
4. The role requires significant amount of change, managing the underlying processes as new asset classes, products and regulatory developments are introduced. Ensuring safe and timely delivery.
5. To manage and develop the capability of the Investment Accounting team into a high performing team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide oversight of outsourced investment accounting.
2. Manage the Investment Accounting team, ensuring delivery of its objectives against those set by the Group Finance Director.
3. Prepare reports and presentations to support the Group Finance Director and SFLT delivery to the Group Board, GEC and relevant committees.
4. Deliver clear and effective communications to key stakeholders, including GEC members, when reporting and delivering analysis and insight of key messages.
5. Be recognised as a subject matter expert in Investment Accounting, and as a point of day to day escalation for the team on technical and management queries.
6. Act as a technical expert for investment products and assets writing papers for and managing the Valuation Forum.
7. Manage the operational running of the team, ensuring a high quality of output is delivered that exceeds/meets key stakeholder expectations.
8. Lead the daily box management process including ownership, control and running the process including resolving issues and reducing the risk and exposure.
9. Ensure that all processes within the team are documented effectively and to the required standards, including FRDCF controls, ensuring the team complete design assessments and operating effectiveness self-assessments, with deficiencies reported and escalated to Group Finance Director.
10. Lead the investment reporting change including linkage with the Asset Manager and third parties ensuring of change, managing the underlying processes as new asset classes, products and regulatory developments are introduced.
Technical Knowledge and Skills Required:
1. Professionally qualified, where required and educated to degree level or equivalent.
2. Significant relevant industry experience with a demonstrable track record of undertaking similar roles.
3. Operationally and commercially focused on business drivers and outcomes.
4. Strong experience in managing and implementing required functional and technical knowledge across financial services organisations.
5. Strong understanding of the financial drivers and methodologies for UK Life and Pensions organisations.
6. Good understanding of UK life and Pension industry accounting and actuarial aspects and its regulatory environment.
7. Can communicate complex financial matters clearly and precisely.
8. Experienced and trained in the use of required financial systems or similar as relevant to the role.
