Job Overview An exciting opportunity has become available for a band 6 Specialist Nurse Nurse to join an enthusiastic, forwards thinking, multidisciplinary team, within the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) PICU is a 10 bedded mixed unit where all patients are nursed under the Mental Health Act. Patients within the PICU are experiencing an acute episode of mental ill health and require a range of specialist interventions. Main duties of the job As a valued staff member you can expect to receive a comprehensive induction into the trust and to the team. A bespoke training passport has been developed for all PICU staff. Staff wellbeing and support is very important to us and we have various embedded systems in place to promote this, including regular clinical and managerial supervision, weekly reflective practice, team discussions after all shifts and 6 monthly team away days. As a Specialist nurse on PICU you will be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team providing a high level of specialist care, working towards a trauma informed model of care. You will provide high levels of clinical and professional leadership, supporting the management team to implement both clinical and operational policy, protocol, service/ practice development and change. Person specification Knowledge Essential Criteria Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion Advanced It skills Desirable criteria Evidence of project work that has impacted on practice and demonstrates a higher level of communication/planning/change that impacts within own area of work/responsibility Experience Essential criteria Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at specialist level of care Evidence of development of specialist practice nursing skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development Desirable criteria Demonstrable experience of working in the specific field where the post is held Qualifications Essential criteria Part III or 13 of NMC live register Demonstrable experience of mentoring pre-registration students Desirable criteria Leadership training/qualification/experience Skills And Competencies Essential criteria Effective inter-personal skills and experience in supervising and mentoring Able to demonstrate effective communication skills Desirable criteria Ability to lead and motivate staff to embrace change Applicant Requirements You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
