Child & Adolescent Mental Health / Learning Disabilities Nurse
The post holder will have responsibility to provide expertise to young people and families seeking support from the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) within Swansea Bay University Health Board. This is a community-based service which provides support in various locations, as is appropriate for the young person (e.g. clinic, school, home). The role involves partnership working and close collaboration with statutory and third sector partners as well as families/ carers/ trusted adults. This post will play a key role within the CAMHS multi-professional team.
The post holder will be required to clinically assess need and provide interventions under Part 1 and Part 2 of the Mental Health (Wales) Measure (2010) and will need to adopt a flexible approach to work to ensure that they can adapt to the changing needs of the service.
Interventions provided by the appointee must include evidence-based, biopsychosocial interventions utilising CBT-informed approaches in both an individual and group-based modalities.
The post holder will be responsible for providing timely, patient-led care in line with the needs of young people and their families/carers, ensuring culturally sensitive practice, amongst a wider professional team consisting of nursing, psychiatry, psychology, psychological therapies, and other disciplines.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide high-quality, evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)-informed approaches to groups, individuals and families.
Work on own initiative when providing consultation, liaison and support, directing the young person to the correct support pathway using independent clinical decision-making.
Complete strengths-based assessments under Part 1 of the Mental Health (Wales) Measure (2010).
Be responsible for providing timely, patient-led care in line with the needs of young people and their families/carers, ensuring culturally sensitive practice.
Provide expertise within the CAMHS multi-professional team, consisting of nursing, psychiatry, psychology, psychological therapies, and other disciplines.
Provide support in various locations, as is appropriate for the young person (e.g. clinic, school, home) and therefore will be required to travel independently within the geographical area.
Assess and manage patient safety and risk and maintain appropriate record keeping in line with health board and professional standards including documentation (e.g. Wales Applied Risk Research Network (WARRN)).
Support and line manage newly qualified staff and support workers.
Possess organisational skills to manage a clinical caseload with competing demands and interruptions.
Maintain and uphold the requirements of professional registration.
Requirement to assist within the limits of your knowledge and competence if an emergency arises.

Experience
* Significant previous experience of working within a professional mental health setting.
* Experience of managing risk in a mental health setting of working with families, carers, and trusted adults.
* Experience of multi-professional and multi-agency working including representing the service at meetings.
* Experience of collaborating with colleagues to develop their skills.
* Experience of delivering individualised mental health care, including assessment, psychologically informed approaches, review and discharge.
* Experience of professional record keeping.
* Experience of working within a professional mental health setting with children and young people.
* Experience of community-based mental health work.
* Experience of training and/or supervising staff.
* Experience of delivering CBT-informed approaches (e.g. CBT, DBT, ACT, SFT, CFT).
* Experience in peer supervision and reflective practice.
* Experience of working using whole systems approaches of creating and delivering mental health-related content (e.g. psychoeducational groups, parent groups, etc.).
Qualifications and Knowledge
* First level nurse, registered to practice in mental health or learning disabilities.
* Specialist training to post-graduate level.
* Knowledge of the assessment and treatment of mental health.
* Knowledge of and/or training in CBT-informed approaches (e.g. CBT, DBT, ACT, SFT, CFT).
* Knowledge of and/or training in risk and safety management processes, including self-harm, suicide and risk to others, of child safeguarding legislation and procedures and of Gillick Competence and mental capacity.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Knowledge of NHS policies, procedures and guidelines in relation to mental health.
* Knowledge of child development and attachment.
* Knowledge of systemic family therapeutic processes.
* Knowledge of guidelines (e.g. NYTH/NEST Framework, Mental Health (Wales) Measure (2010), ALNET, WARRN, Whole School Approach).
* Knowledge of Duty of Candour and Putting Things Right Policy.
