We are looking to appoint a committed, flexible and highly organised person to provide a full clerking service to our Board of Governors and to advise on good practice and compliance with its statutory and regulatory requirements. This role is for approximately 175 hours per year. The full time equivalent pay is Kent Range 6 £25,127 - £26,383, which equates to £2,546 - £2,673.
* Drafting meeting agendas, distributing papers and minuting meetings;
* Convening meetings and ensuring they are quorate, inclusive and well structured;
* Receiving correspondence on behalf of the Governing Body and ensuring necessary and appropriate action is taken;
* Acting as Company Secretary to the academy trust, maintaining accurate and timely records in accordance with legal requirements and keeping statutory registers and filing returns up to date;
* Advising on legal duties, governing best practice and compliance with constitutional requirements, statutory guidance and policies;
* Building professional working relationships with the chair, the Board and school leaders;
* Communicating on board matters outside of meetings;
* Advising on governor CPD and accessing external advice as appropriate;
* Attending termly briefings and participating in professional development opportunities to keep up to date with current educational developments and legislation affecting school governance.
The ideal candidate will:
* Hold a relevant clerking qualification, such as a Certificate in the Clerking of School and Academy Governing Boards;
* Liaise confidently with school stakeholders and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
* Have experience of organising meetings, writing agendas and accurate concise minutes;
* Demonstrate a high level of computer literacy, especially word processing and database software;
* Work efficiently and accurately under pressure;
* Be a person of integrity who demonstrates an absolute commitment to confidentiality;
* Be comfortable working on their own initiative, have good time management skills and be able to prioritise and work to deadlines;
* Keep accurate records, retrieve and disseminate information to the Governing Board and relevant partners;
* Be committed to professional development to maintain knowledge and improve practice;
* Have the capacity to work flexible hours.
