About the role:
The Tax Assistant will work with the wider tax team to deliver on tax advisory, compliance, accounting and risk management matters across iQ. The Tax Assistant will have responsibility for managing registrations, project deliverables and timelines, online filing of relevant UK tax returns, and interacting with HMRC through the Government Gateways, and telephone/chat functions.
The Tax Assistant is a key part of the Tax Team, supporting iQ through its growth, both operationally and transactionally, and across the taxes applicable to a real estate business (including Corporation Tax, VAT, CIS and stamp taxes).
Key Responsibilities:
* Supporting the Tax Senior Manager and Tax Manager in managing third party professional advisers to complete REIT compliance requirements
* In house completion and submission of VAT and CIS returns
* Liaising with HMRC on administrative matters, including online and by telephone and drafting of email and written correspondence
* Supporting in the production of information for tax related due diligence (in conjunction with the wider Tax Team)
* Consideration of ongoing system-based process improvements, partnering with colleagues in the wider business where required
* Additional tasks including supporting the Tax Team in tax forecasting and modelling, investor compliance, loan compliance, and monitoring and management of tax risks
About You
Knowledge & Qualifications:
* Qualified ATT or part-qualified ACA/CTA
* A good knowledge of UK taxes and compliance processes and an awareness of other tax and accounting areas
* Awareness of other tax jurisdictions used to hold UK real estate (eg Luxembourg/Jersey/Guernsey) preferred but not essential
Experience & Skills:
* Tax experience in a large/medium accounting firm; or mixed accounting experience (including tax) at a smaller accounting firm or in industry
* Excellent organisational skills
* Strong MS Excel skills
* Experience in using specialist tax software (such as tax compliance software and MTD bridging software) preferred but not essential
* Good knowledge of tax compliance requirements and experience of working with HMRC’s systems
* Strong self-motivation and desire to develop tax technical and business advisory experience
* Excellent communication skills
* Commercial mindset – ability to identify improvements and cost savings
We operate a hybrid working model with 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home / site location.
