Hull University Students’ Union is looking for an External Trustee to help shape our future.
Hull University Students’ Union (HUSU) is a registered charity and student-led organisation at the heart of the University of Hull. We provide services and social and recreational activities for all students at the University, which support our core objectives as a Charity.
Our Board of Trustees governs Hull University Students’ Union and is the ultimate decision-making body at HUSU, with overall responsibility for charity governance, budget, and ensuring compliance in all areas of legislation, policy, and procedures. It plays an essential role in delivering HUSU’s Strategy. The Board is made up of elected president trustees, appointed student trustees, and selected external trustees. External trustees are not involved in day-to-day affairs but work closely with the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team. The effectiveness of the Board is reviewed annually, and we hold regular training and development sessions.
The Board of Trustees meets a minimum of four times a year. In addition, there are Committees that Trustees can also sit on. All meetings are held during the working day. External Trustees are also encouraged to spend time in the Students’ Union when they can – to attend events and get to know our students and staff and how we work. Trustees are invited to attend activities throughout the year including the awards ceremonies, fundraising, and sports events.
This is an unpaid role, but travel expenses and all out-of-pocket expenses in connection with the External Trustee role will be reimbursed.
We are looking for individuals with direct experience of the Student Union sector to support the work of the Trustee Board.
Interviews will take place on a rolling basis, as applications are reviewed. Successful applicants will be appointed by the Appointments & Governance Committee, on behalf of the Trustee Board, and may serve for a term of up to three years with the option of a second term.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of this role with a member of HUSU’s Senior Management Team, please email husu-execsupport@hull.ac.uk or ring 01482 464000 to make arrangements.
