Are you curious to understand how things work? Do you like fixing things? Are you good at problem solving with strong mathematical skills? If so, our Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship may be just for you.
You may be surprised to know that to make one toilet roll, the machinery involved is larger than a jumbo jet, the machine speed is faster than the motorway speed limit, and the process involves recycling paper, water, and energy. Join us as a mechanical engineering apprentice and this could be the start of your learning.
About the role
Our paper mill contains a vast array of machinery and equipment. Key to its success is that the machinery is well maintained and reliable. Innovation and sustainability are important to us. Continuous improvement creates projects that you may have the opportunity to be part of as an apprentice. Our mechanical engineering apprenticeship will, over a four-year period, equip you with the skills to become a skilled shift mechanical technician.
Essity offers the opportunity to join a local company that is part of a global business embracing innovation and diversity. We manufacture many leading tissue brands – Cushelle, Velvet, Plenty, and Tork.
What you will do
You will develop your skills through on-the-job training and formal qualifications. You will work Monday to Friday during your apprenticeship. In the first year, you will attend Burnley College full-time with scheduled work placements on-site. From year two onwards, you will be based on-site, spending one day per week at Burnley College.
The qualifications you will study are:
1. Year 1: Level 3 BTEC / Diploma, including functional skills
2. Year 2: Level 2 Papermaking Technical Certificate
3. Year 3: NVQ Level 3 Extended Diploma, Level 3 Papermaking
If you demonstrate the right level of knowledge and commitment, you will have the opportunity to study for a Level 4 HNC Engineering qualification in the final two years.
From year three, there may be opportunities to refine your skills acquired by working on shift. If this is the case, you will be given appropriate time off to attend college.
This is a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn.
