Job Purpose
* To act as the custodian of the Point and Linear Alert logic for their respective area and to be responsible for improving the performance trends of the Alerts in order to realise a reduction in ODI service failures of the Wastewater Network or increasing our ability to attend to carry out proactive maintenance where required avoiding asset failure.
* A good understanding of electrical performance and conditional based monitoring is desirable.
* To be responsible for developing planned and proactive alert performance management processes and metrics to significantly reduce the volume of reactive work currently undertaken across the Wastewater Network.
* In order to do this the Performance Engineer will have to understand the way that alerts are generated, the main contributing factors which could drive ineffective alert generation and the methods and techniques used by field engineers responding to and investigating alerts to ensure a prompt feedback cycle and applying lessons learned to continuously improve alert quality.
* The Performance Engineer will also carry out an array of analysis to identify systemic, local, technical or set point changes required to allow Operations to manage the Wastewater Network in a Proactive or Predictive manner.
Job Accountabilities
* Ensure compliance with all Operational Intelligence and Wastewater Network policies, procedures, Environment Agency protocol and regulatory requirements on a daily basis.
* Improve drainage and alert performance by providing technical input into alert logic, setpoints, management, attendance and investigations to reduce the number of reactive flooding and pollution incidents amongst others, and improve customer satisfaction and CMEX performance. Including Powered and Non-Powered asset performance improvement.
* To control and support development of new Alerts and activities to safeguard the long-term serviceability of the Wastewater Network.
* Ensure data recorded and updated in the DNM platform is Reliable, Accurate and Complete, particularly around Flooding, Pollution, Collapses and Feedback from investigations.
* Develop and maintain very effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, as required, including but not limited to; Drainage Performance Teams, Drainage Delivery Teams (Inf & Non Inf), County System Performance teams, Monitoring and Control Teams, External contractors such as Jacobs, Royal Haskoning & Sensor suppliers.
* Respond to requests from the wastewater drainage network, as required. Proactively identify potential causes of failure and implement necessary interventions to stop repeat occurrences, including Indicative factors for when and how issues begin to occur and identify how they could be resolved. Following this create business cases to articulate how issues could be prevented to be reviewed for potential approval.
* To act as an SME for all remote monitoring related matters associated with activities undertaken on the wastewater network sensor performance and improvement plans.
* Ensure compliance with UUW health and safety policies and procedures at all times.
* Optimise the network asset base in order of maintaining/improving performance.
* To determine and develop future platform developments in order to resolve specific business challenges related to operational/hydraulic performance.
* To oversee implementation and assurance of new functionality on the DNM platform and provide quality assurance governance ensuring they are kept up to date.
* Development of and custodian of business rules to support proactive signature monitoring.
* Provide day-to-day technical support and advice to field team, as required.
* Contribute to the production of missed opportunities reports and post event reports, and provide technical support at Post Event, Post Incident and Serious Pollution Panel meetings.
Knowledge and Skills
* HNC in civil engineering or working towards (or related subject) is essential.
* Extensive knowledge and experience of day-to-day sewer operation, policies, procedures and maintenance techniques particularly on powered assets with good commercial awareness.
* Good general knowledge of health and safety and other standards including CDM and NRSWA.
* Excellent understanding of the regulatory contact with Ofwat.
* Excellent analytical & Problem solving skills along with good reporting and presentation skills (both oral & written).
* Excellent communication, influencing and team working skills - able to develop contacts across teams and departments, as well as with external organisations.
* Capable of using own initiative and working under pressure.
* Excellent time management and organisational skills - able to work to deadline and achieve personal objectives.
* Excellent customer service skills - both internal and external customers.
* Good IT skills and understanding of IT systems and their capabilities.
* Full UK driving licence.
