Do you want to make a positive difference to the lives of those in your community? Do you have lived experience and want to put your skills and knowledge to use? Sacro’s mission is to deliver life-changing services that empower people, give hope and protection, and help to build safe communities. The North Lanarkshire Justice Service is recruiting volunteers to provide support to those that would benefit from additional assistance in the local community. You will work with people on a 1:1 basis, offering practical and emotional support to build their self-confidence, independence, coping skills and positive relationships. You will provide support for individuals to learn independent living skills such as using public transport, shopping and budgeting; as well as health walks, check-ins and support to attend recovery meetings. You will be matched with individuals who are at a more stable point in their lives but would still benefit from additional support, as identified by the Justice worker. Skills: To be kind, empathetic and friendly. To be punctual and reliable and presentable. To ensure record keeping is maintained to the required standards at all times and reported to the Justice Worker. There are no formal education requirements for this role however, you must be a good communicator. An awareness and understanding of the needs of those we support. To be able to deal with information in line with our data protection and confidentiality procedures. Volunteering with Sacro provides the opportunity for skills and knowledge to be put into practice while giving back to the local community. A wide range of shadowing opportunities are offered and delivered by the Justice worker as well as by other Sacro services based in Lanarkshire. All volunteers will also receive comprehensive Sacro training. We are eager to receive applications from those who are in recovery themselves or have lived experience of the Justice System. As a mentoring based role, Sacro sees the value in those who have lived experience supporting individuals. We ask that volunteers dedicate a minimum of 2 hours per week to the service for at least 6 consecutive months. Driving is not essential but desirable as referrals cover the whole of North Lanarkshire. All travel and additional expenses will be reimbursed. We welcome applications from individuals who share Sacro’s aims and values and want to engage with those we support to help them move on to a more secure, settled and fulfilling life and value diversity from all sections of the community.
