recruited a new director in April 2024 who has set an ambitious new strategy for growth on a more commercial trajectory.
In view of the scale of the opportunity, Shoosmiths is looking to hire a Head of New Business, who will work closely with the Business Development & Marketing team and the firm’s partners in helping to realise Shoosmiths’ wider ambition to excel in its chosen markets by 2030.
Main responsibilities
We are looking for an entrepreneurial, commercially savvy, client facing team member, who has extensive new business generation experience and has client faced throughout their career. This person must have their own client connections and be used to opening doors. They will be expected to come in running as we pursue exciting opportunities together.
The ideal candidate will get involved in helping shape and implement the strategy, increasing the profile of the Shoosmiths in the market and assisting with client onboarding initiatives.
1. Play key role in the BDM leadership team, working with the other ‘Heads of’ to drive the strategy forward successfully.
2. Lead and manage a client target pipeline, working closely with partners across our Key Pillars and Core Sectors.
3. Feed newly acquired clients into the client team and prioritise onboarding solutions so that the client relationship management team can provide support.
4. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including Shoosmiths EIGHT, IS, risk & ethics to ensure seamless operational efficiency an excellent client experience.
5. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the progress and success of pursuits initiatives.
6. Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on pursuit status, challenges, and achievements.
7. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and raise Shoosmiths profile in the market.
8. Work closely with the Director with strategic pursuit planning for the business.
9. Work closely across the divisions to understand how best to promote them in the market.
10. Be highly visible in the market, especially in our Key Pillars and Core Sectors and attend new prospect meetings.
11. Generate leads and introduce partners to new clients.
12. Close new business.
Skills and qualifications
The ideal candidate will be comfortable in managing their client network, making introductions, targeting new prospects, and generating new business. They will understand the professional services landscape and have a proven track record in doing so.
Risk and Commercial awareness are vital to the role and the ideal candidate should feel comfortable managing stakeholders. The right candidate is likely to be dynamic and comfortable with a wide range of responsibilities. They will have a willingness to tackle any situation with a can-do attitude and an entrepreneurial outlook and interest in innovation is key.
Any experience within connected services and holistic solutions would be advantageous.
