The opportunity has arisen for a Part time band 6 nurse to join the team of a busy Ophthalmology Pre-operative Assessment department at St Albans City Hospital. Main duties of the job
The role of the band 6 nurse is to undertake pre-operative assessment of patients awaiting elective surgery across a wide range of specialties, ensuring patients are prepared physically and psychologically for surgery whilst minimizing short notice cancellations.

The post holder must demonstrate evidence of personal development, possess good communication skills, have knowledge and experience in the care of the surgical patient, and have good leadership and time management skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills.

Education and qualifications
* Registered Nurse Part 1,2.
* Training to undertake specific procedures within the remit of the role and assessment of competency in these procedures.
* Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.
* Teaching qualification recognized by NMC and proven ability to provide clinical education.
* Post-registration qualification in specialty area.
* In possession of or willing to undertake relevant Nursing Degree.
Knowledge
* Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice, particularly within specialty area and the application of this in practice.
* Thorough understanding of equality and diversity and its application to managing self, staff, and patients within own area.
* Membership of special interest and professional group.
* Understanding of NMC Code of Practice and requirements of it for the practice and behavior and its application to the management of staff and self.
* Basic knowledge of using MS Windows Office applications and Excel.
