About the Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will provide essential support to pupils with a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to implement tailored strategies that enhance learning and well-being. Responsibilities of the Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA):
* Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEN, adapting teaching strategies to meet individual learning needs.
* Assist in implementing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and personalised learning programmes.
* Support pupils’ social and emotional development, helping to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
* Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and support staff to ensure a consistent approach to learning and development.
* Facilitate sensory and communication support for pupils with complex needs.
* Assist in managing challenging behaviour using positive reinforcement techniques.
* Support pupils during breaktimes, transitions and extracurricular activities, fostering their independence and confidence.
The successful candidate will:
* Have experience in supporting children with SEN in an educational or care setting is highly desirable.
* Have relevant qualifications such as a CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or an equivalent SEN-related qualification, are beneficial but not essential.
* Have a strong understanding of SEN strategies and conditions like autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and Physical Disabilities (PD).
* Possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
* Be patient and adaptable approach, with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic school environment.
* Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
