Salary: Competitive plus generous benefits Start date: April 2025 Godstowe is a thriving, busy School enjoying a famous reputation in its field and now entering its 125th anniversary year. Approximately a third of our pupils are boarders. The School prepares children for entry, mostly at 13 but some at 11, into the leading independent senior schools. The School prides itself in academic excellence, whilst being non-selective at entry. We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic Teacher of English as a Foreign Language, who will lead the EAL Department in an inspirational manner. About 20% of our girls are international pupils, from the European countries as well as Africa and the Far East. Some of these international pupils speak English as an additional language and require tailored lessons in EAL as part of their overall programme of study. The Head of EAL will make a significant contribution to the academic and all-round progress of the international pupils. They will assess their level of English, devise an individual schedule of EAL lessons and manage the department. The Head of EAL will teach a busy timetable of lessons, as well as leading the team of EAL teachers who also deliver individual and group lessons. Close liaison with the academic and pastoral staff teams is essential to ensure that pupils flourish in line with our ethos of encouraging them to be confident, happy and successful. An inspirational and innovative department head, the Head of EAL chooses a blend of modern and traditional resources, teaching material and technology for the delivery of the EAL programme, holding budget responsibility. Communications with all members of the School community are essential reflecting our vision that the international pupils add a special dimension to our vibrant School. If you are ready for a challenge, have vision and the determination to succeed, as well as a proven record of successful EAL teaching, we want to hear from you.
