Job summary The Royal Marsden Hospital is Europe's largest Oncology centre with sites in Chelsea and Sutton. Diagnostic Imaging provides an essential service to the Trust including a general x-ray service, includes, CT, MRI, Mammography, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT. The Department of Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT and Radioisotope Therapy is looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual for a Clinical Nurse Specialist post to specifically support the Radioisotope Therapy Service and cover Radiation protection duties. The successful candidate will help to support the department as a whole and ensure that the service is patient-focused and provides high quality care. The successful candidate will participate, if required, in a flexible working day covering 8am to 8pm and should be willing to rotate through both our Sutton and Chelsea departments. Post-registration experience in an oncology setting is essential and Nuclear Medicine experience is highly desirable but appropriate training will be given where necessary. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to professional development, an enthusiasm for their work and show a keen interest in the future of both their profession and the Diagnostic Imaging Service. They will be expected to support both the service and its staff in continuing to maintain and develop the highest standards of imaging and therapy.. Main duties of the job 1.1. The post holder will be an experienced nurse practitioner in the care of patients with cancer within the diagnostic imaging setting.1.2. The main focus of this role is with patients who attend the department for targeted radionuclide therapy particularly in providing support, patient and carer education, counselling and advice on treatment related issues.1.3. The post holder's role will include administering ionising radiation by intravenous injection or oral routes and will be key in co-ordinating patient's diagnostic tests with their therapeutic treatment.1.4. There will also be some involvement with diagnostic procedures for all nuclear medicine investigations.1.5. The Nurse Specialist will form part of the multidisciplinary team ensure the patient pathway is as quick and efficient and patients are seen in a timely way to prevent any delay in treatment.1.6. The post holder will also provide clinical nurse leadership and support to all nurses in the diagnostic imaging department.
