Job Description Place Supervisor Gardener Based at our Bankhead Depot or Inverleith Park Depot Salary: £28,046 - £32,010 Hours: 36 per week We are looking for a Supervisor Gardeners based at either our Bankhead Depot to work within our South West Openspace Team or Inverleith Park Depot to work with our cycleway maintenance teams. The successful applicant will oversee and carry out horticultural, landscaping and ground maintenance duties to improve Edinburgh’s parks, gardens, greenspaces and cemeteries. They will also lead and manage the performance of Senior Gardeners, Gardeners and Seasonal/Apprentice Gardeners. They will also provide training and instruction in horticultural practice to Senior Gardeners, Gardeners and Seasonal/Apprentice Gardeners. Post holders will have: - SVQ Level 3 in Amenity Horticulture, Green-keeping, or Nursery practice or equivalent. - Current, clean, full driving licence or commitment to complete qualification. - NPTC Certificate of Competence in use of Pesticides PA1 PA6a. - A minimum of five years experience in horticulture, ground maintenance, green-keeping, or nursery practice. - Experience of working with the public. - Experience of operating ground maintenance machinery and equipment. - Significant experience of supervising and managing operational staff within an organisation of comparable scope, size and complexity within the public or private sector. - Experience of training or instructing staff. - Experience of driving vehicles, including tractors and towing of trailers. - Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and policy. - Knowledge of preparing and maintaining floral meadows. - Knowledge of maintaining sports pitches. - Knowledge of planting and maintaining herbaceous perennials and shrubs. - Knowledge of propagation techniques. - Knowledge in designing and planting out floral displays. A1 SVQ Assessors Award and certification for use of tractor mounted spraying equipment are desirable.
