We have a 12 months fixed termmaternity cover vacancy for a band 4 to 5 progression Clinical Pharmacy Technician to work within Urgent and Emergency Care at Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital, Margate.
This is a fast paced but varied exciting environment, and your clinical knowledge is constantly developed to provide a patient focused medicines management service. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, where the goal is to ensure we provide an excellent service to our patients, with their safety and well-being at the forefront of everything we do. The role will involve regular teaching to other clinicians and healthcare professionals working in the emergency department.
The band 4 to 5 progression post is suitable for pharmacy technicians looking to work in the emergency department; newly qualified pharmacy technicians or community pharmacy technician looking to start their hospital career.
To progress to the band 5, the successful applicant would need to successfully complete the in-house progression policy.
As part of the progression, the applicant would also need to display specialist knowledge in acute and emergency medicine and be fully compliant with oral and IV administration. Please contact the lead recruiter for further details regarding the role and progression.
Completing detailed medication histories using a multitude of sources in order to reconcile with current inpatient medications and make interventions where appropriate.
Administering Intravenous and oral medications within scope of practice (Training will be provided)
To counsel patients on new or changed medications to help promote compliance
To aid Doctors and nurses with medication queries
To evaluate the suitability of patients, own medications for use whilst in the hospital setting
To participate in the discharge planning of patients with ward staff and other healthcare professionals both in secondary and primary care.
Accuracy checking of dispensed items in our main hospital dispensary or satellite pharmacy within the acute medicines unit
To carry out audits on the department to ensure procedures are being followed
