We are seeking a compassionate and dynamic Modern Matron to lead and enhance the delivery of exceptional care across our Gynaecology Services within the Women & Children’s Division. This pivotal role covers a diverse range of services, including our inpatient ward, early pregnancy loss and bereavement care, early pregnancy clinic, gynaecology emergency clinic, specialised colposcopy, and same-day surgery.

Main duties of the job
As a visible and proactive leader, you will ensure high standards of patient-centred care, drive quality improvements, and support staff development across these specialised areas. You will work closely with and support the Divisional Director/Deputy Directors of Nursing and Midwifery, ensuring safe, high-quality, and compassionate care is consistently delivered. Additionally, you will be part of the Matron of the Day rota and contribute to the out-of-hours on-call rota for the division, providing leadership and guidance beyond standard working hours.
The successful candidate will also work collaboratively as part of the Acute Provider Collaborative, engaging with colleagues at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) to ensure equity of services across Bristol, promoting consistency and excellence in gynaecological care across the region.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide clinical, professional and nursing managerial leadership to a group of wards in a clinical team/ teams.
To be identifiable, highly visible, authoritative and accessible to patients, carers and staff for assistance advice and support.
To ensure that the fundamentals of care are delivered to the highest possible standards ensuring that the privacy and dignity of patients is respected. To ensure that the clinical environments are always clean and that the best practice in infection control is always observed.
To represent the clinical specialty and the WCH division as required internally and externally, deputising when requested for the Deputy Divisional Director of and Midwifery Nursing. This post holder is expected to work part of their time available within clinical practice.
